Opposition to Point Molate Project Grows January 30, 2010 |
|
On January 26, the Marin County Board of Supervisors added its opposition to the Upstream Point Molate project. Click on Jan. 26, 2010: Marin County to George Skibine “The County of Marin wishes to submit for your consideration its opposition to the proposed Point Molate Mixed-Use Tribal Resort and Casino Project located just north of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge along the eastern shore of San Francisco Bay, at Point Molate in the City of Richmond, Western Contra Costa County. Marin County joins Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in his opposition to urban gaming, and Senators Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer in their expressed opposition to taking off reservation lands into trust for gaming purposes. Specifically, the County of Marin opposes the acquisition of land by the Bureau of Indian Affairs in trust for the benefit of the Guidiville Band of Pomo Indians of the Guidiville Rancheria required for the Pt. Molate gaming project.” On January 27, the Point Richmond Neighborhood Council, representing the neighborhood closest and most likely to be affected by the project, voted overwhelmingly to oppose it. A razor thin City Council majority voted earlier this month to extend the Land Development Agreement with Upstream 60 days from its previous expiration date of January 15 in order to clean up significant flaws in the agreement. With 45 days left to go, no progress has been evident, and Upstream has produced no new information attesting to their financial ability to build the $1.2 billion project.
