Governor Opposes Point Molate Gaming

In a letter dated October 12, 2009, Andrea Lynn Hoch, Legal Affairs Secretary for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, expressed opposition on behalf of the Office of the Governor to the acquisition of Point Molate by the Bureau of Indian Affairs to hold in trust for the Guidiville Band of Pomo Indians for the purpose of gaming. The letter was sent to both the City of Richmond and the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Click here for a copy.

The letter stated, “First, the Governor’s Office opposes this project because it violates Governor Schwarzenegger’s proclamation opposing urban casinos.” Further, the latter stated: “Allowing the Guidiville Tribe’s casino project to proceed would violate the State’s public policy and the California electorate’s good faith and would subvert the notions of cooperative federalism that lie at the heart of IGRA.”
