Sleeping Better in Richmond

At long last, Quiet Zones West Three and West Four will go into effect at 12.01 AM on August 21, 2009. These Quiet Zones include two grade crossings on the Richmond Parkway just south of Atchison Village and a grade crossing on Ohio south of Atchison Village.

Horns from these grade crossing have adversely impacted Atchison Village, parts of the Iron Triangle and Santa Fe Neighborhoods and Point Richmond.

To report violations, see http://www.ci.richmond.ca.us/index.aspx?NID=1776.

Thanks to Assistant City Attorney Carlos Privat and City Engineer Rich Davidson for persevering to get these new Quiet Zones established.

The City will continue to work on establishing additional Quiet Zones with the goal of making Richmond a horn-free city. Next in line are the remainder of the grade crossings on the BNSF “Siberia Lead,” which runs from Quiet Zones West Three and West Four to the crossing on West Cutting Boulevard near 4th Street.
