Fall Exhibitions 2008 Sept 30-Oct 31
ARTISTS' RECEPTION: Saturday October 18, 2:00 to 4:30 p.m.
Main Gallery: Peter Foucault: External Influences
External Influences explores the collaborative process between human and
machine through the medium of drawing. Peter Foucault has developed
circumstances in which small robots will interact with Bay Area visual,
performance, and sound artists, along with the public to create a series
of large-scale, abstract drawing compositions. The majority of the
works shown will be created on-site over the course of the exhibition,
transforming the gallery into an active project space that will
constantly be generating new images, ideas and synchronicities.
South Gallery: The Neighborhood Public Art Project
A community collaboration between the the Richmond Art Center, the
Richmond Arts and Culture Commission, and the City of Richmond, with
additional support from the San Francisco Foundation. In an innovative
model of community engagement, neighborhood organizations are partnered
with professional artists, who work together to develop and produce new
temporary or permanent public artworks of their own design. Current
projects are taking place in collaboration with the Shields-Reid
Community Center, the Laurel Park Neighborhood Council, the Parchester
Village Community Center, The Tent City Peace Movement, The Richmond
Main Street Initiative, and Familias Unidas.
