Greenway Service Project Wildly Successful January 23, 2008 |
Despite rain and cold, some 150 volunteers swarmed the Richmond Greenway on January 21 for a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. Piles of soil, compost and mulch were turned into extensive community gardens at “Berryland” and the “Lincoln School Farm.” Hundreds of native trees and shrubs were planted along the Greenway, and what little trash there was disappeared. Fresh foods and beverages from local sources were served to all participants. Thanks to all the organizations and individuals who helped organize this event, including The Watershed Project, the 5% Coalition, Urban Tilth, Opportunity West, Friends of the Richmond Greenway (FORG), and many others. |
