Your Chance to Investigate Your Government April 13, 2007 |
GRAND JURY SEEKS MEMBERS
The Contra Costa County Grand Jury wants residents to apply for its 2007-08 term. The grand jury serves as a civic watchdog, investigating public agencies to ensure its duties are lawful and efficient. Nineteen people—adults who must be U.S. citizens in Costa Costa County for at least one year—will serve on the panel from July 2007 to 2008.
Jurors are expected to work at least 20 hours a week to tour county facilities, attend committee meetings and perform other tasks. They receive stipends for meeting attendances and are reimbursed for certain travel.
Application forms can be picked up in Room 2017 at 1020 Ward Street in Martinez. The forms are due April 16th.
Superior Court judges will interview 60 applicants and narrow down their selections to 30 people. A random drawing will determine the final 19, who will be sworn in June 29. For more information, call the grand jury at (925) 957-5879 or visit www.cc-courts.org/grandjury. |
