Richmond Greenway on Path to Completion
February 12, 2006

A couple of weeks ago, bids were opened for Phase 1 (west) of the Richmond Greenway, and the project appears to be within the $3.1 million budget. Although the low bid was $2,206.238, the total construction cost also includes contingency, city furnished materials, construction management and materials testing, for a total estimated cost of at least $2,854,860. Construction is scheduled to begin sometime in April of 2006.

This is a major milestone in an effort that began over 15 years ago to convert the Richmond portion of an abandoned railroad right of way into a regional trail and linear park that will link up the Bay Trail with the Ohlone Greenway that passes through El Cerrito, Albany and Berkeley. Special recognition is due to City Engineer Rich Davidson and contract Construction Manager Michael Glaser of Vali Cooper Associates who brought this project home.

There will be a meeting in the City Council Chamber at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, February 14, of Greenway supporters to plan for maintenance of the Phase 1 (west) portion of the Richmond Greenway and to plan for funding of the Phase 2 (east) portion.
