An E-Forum reader sent me a photo of the banner from Richmond’s 50^th anniversary in 1955, which got me thinking about iconography and the images and logos Richmond conjures up to represent itself to the world, as well as others that are not indigenous to Richmond but have found roots here. See the attached PDF file, and send me your own contributions for an expanded collection. Anyone know who came up with that “City of Pride and Purpose” motto and the “bird’s head” logo that goes with it? I would hate to see the losing entries in that contest.
