Richmond Organizations Break
New Ground in Urban-Wildland Fire Study September 24, 2004 |
|
Several Richmond organizations collaborated in the research and publication of two major reports that are being utilized as part of an effort by the State Fire Marshal’s office and the California Building Standards Commission to upgrade building code requirements applicable to fire resistance of new construction in urban-wildland interface areas.
Heading the effort was Joe Zicherman, Ph.D. of Fire Cause Analysis, 213 Cutting Boulevard, Richmond 94804 (joe@fcafire.com). Sharon Waterman, AIA, a Richmond resident and principal of Interactive Resources, along with Interactive Resources staff, provided the computer generated graphics. Also participating were Steve Quarles and Frank Beall Ph. D. of the U.C. Berkeley Forest Products Laboratory at the Richmond Field Station. Those reports have been released by the Office of the State Fire Marshal and can be found at http://osfm.fire.ca.gov/pdf/regulations/UWIRpt1-ALL091004.pdf for the Technical Report and http://osfm.fire.ca.gov/pdf/regulations/UWIC-BRpt091004.pdf for the Cost Benefit Study. These are large PDF files. |
