Chevron Scores Homeland
Security Grant, City Gets Peanuts August 27, 2004 |
|
Citing the “first responders” argument, port cities, such as cash-strapped Richmond, have continued to seek federal funds for homeland security. Security funds rained on California recently, but in the Richmond area, most of the money went to Chevron. Chevron received $3 million, and the City of Richmond received $91,000.
According the Cal Trade Report, “The San Francisco Bay ports of San Francisco and Oakland received $3.4 million and $1.6 million, respectively, while smaller niche ports on the Bay including Redwood City, Richmond, Benecia, and Vallejo were allocated $75,000, $91,000, $20,000, and $500,000, respectively.”
According the McGraw Hill Construction, “ … many grants also went to private companies, including big oil and petrochemical producers. They include $3 million to Chevron Products Co., for access controls in Richmond, Calif.”
