Ride the Bay Trail on Earth Day

Phil Maynard of TRAC's (Trails for Richmond Action Committee) Steering Committee will be conducting a special bike tour of Richmond's Bay Trail to the West County Earth Day Festival on April 26. As described below, you may join Phil and the entourage either at Central Avenue or other meeting spots along the way. This will be an opportunity to understand completed and planned new Bay Trail segments, including options being considered to close a one-mile gap in the four-mile Richmond Parkway Bay Trail, which will connect the north and south shorelines.

Bike Route to West County Earth Day - Saturday, April 26
9:30 AM- start Bay Trail Bike Ride, meet at Central Ave & Rydin Road just west of I-580
10:00 - meet at Rosie the Riveter monument off Melville Square in Marina Bay Park)
10:45 - meet at Richmond Plunge
11:15 - meet at Peres School (Pennsylvania @ 5th) and ride Bay Trail to Earth Day Celebration
12:00 - arrive at Earth Day Celebration

ABAG's Bay Trail Project has just published a colorful, informative set of Bay Trail maps to guide walkers, skaters, bicyclists, wildlife watchers and other trail enthusiasts to over 230 miles of completed trail. The maps distinguish on- and off-street segments to help plan hikes, bike rides and family excursions.

Map backs feature enticing photographs and 40 recommended routes to inspire and guide your trail blazing. Details for each route include: directions, distance, trail surface, natural and historic points of interest, and parking and transit information.

Richmond is included on two maps:
1. The City's entire shoreline from Pt. Pinole Regional Shoreline to the City of Albany is on a map entitled "Carquinez Strait - Vallejo to Richmond". This map features three suggested outings in Richmond, seven photos of Richmond's shoreline and information about birds to be seen along the Bay Trail. This 17" x 23" maps folds to fit conveniently in your shirt pocket.
2. Another map entitled "East Bay - Richmond to Hayward" covers all of Richmond's south shoreline from Point Richmond and Miller/Knox Regional Shoreline to the City of Hayward. This map features two suggested outings in Richmond and two photos of Richmond's shoreline. It also folds to fit in your shirt pocket.
