Black History Month Art Exhibit

WHAT: In Celebration of Black History: Inventors and History Makers An art exhibit celebrating African American scientists, inventors, artists, civil rights leaders and other history makers. For additional information, contact Ann Schnake (510)374-7082 WHERE: Richmond Health Center, 39th and Bissell, Richmond WHEN: The exhibit opens February 1 and continues through April 15. The exhibit can be viewed Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.,Tuesdays and Thursdays 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. A special opening reception will be held February 10 from noon to 1:30 p.m. WHO: Digital prints and paintings by James Gayles and Digital prints by The Arthur Wright will showcase Black scientists and history makers. The show is sponsored by Contra Costa Health Services' Quilt of Many Colors project at Richmond Health Center. Lady Bianca, blues and gospel singer will appear at the opening reception. WHY: "Our cultural perspective is still affected by a race-based history that excluded the contributions of African American. It is important to present positive imagery and unrecognized histories, particularly during Black History Month," says Ann Schnake, Coordinator of the project. |
