| Second Richmond Albertson's in
a Year to Close August 27, 2002 |

Earlier this year, the Albertson’s at 4701
Valley View Road in the El Sobrante area of Richmond closed. Now,
Albertson’s has announced plans to close its food store at Hilltop Mall
in Richmond effective Thursday, September 5, 2002, at 6:00 p.m. According to Albertsons Public Affairs Regional Manager Stacia Levenfeld, company officials say the store has been an under-performing asset and the difficult decision to close the store was made after the company exhausted its efforts to improve the store’s market position. However, company representatives say Albertsons remains committed to finding other opportunities to invest in the City of Richmond.
Mayor Anderson met with Ms. Levenfeld to
discuss the reasons for the store closure and how to move forward with
filling the void that will result from this action. Assistant City
Manager of Community and Economic Development Jay Corey will be meeting
with Albertsons officials, including the company president, to identify
other possible locations to invest in the community. A community meeting
will be held in the Hilltop area on Wednesday, September 11, 2002, with
Albertsons representatives. Albertsons officials say they are working
with employees to place them in other stores in the area. |
