Teams With Dreams Girls
Softball Bags $15,036 Grant August 2, 2002 |
The Oakland A's will present an Oakland A's/ Baseball Tomorrow Fund check and clinic at Richmond Nicholl Park at 12:00 noon on Tuesday, August 13th. The Baseball Tomorrow Fund has awarded a grant in the amount of $15,036.53 to the Teams with Dreams Girls Softball Program to assist with the purchase of uniforms and equipment. Oakland A's, President Michael Crowley and the Executive Director of the Baseball Tomorrow Fund Cathy Bradley will attend as well. Following the check presentation, A's outfielder Jermaine Dye and bench coach Ken Macha will conduct a special instructional clinic for 20 girls who are involved in the Teams with Dreams program. The Richmond Park and Recreation Department implemented the Teams with Dreams softball program in 2001 with a limited budget of $2,000. This league promotes self-esteem, teamwork and discipline among its players made up of girls between the ages of 8-14 from low income households who are unable to purchase equipment. The Baseball Tomorrow Fund is a $10 million joint initiative between Major League Baseball and the Major League Player's Association. The mission of the Fund is to promote and enhance the growth of baseball in the United States, Canada and throughout the world by funding programs, field and equipment purchases to encourage and maintain youth participation in the game. Since its inception in 1999, the Baseball Tomorrow Fund has awarded more than $2 million in grants to youth baseball and softball programs annually in the United States, Canada, Latin America and Europe.
