The Public Services Director, Rich McCoy just brought to my attention a “work in progress” feature on the City’s website that will link GIS information with other data to provide the information required by Resolution 117-01.

To get to the information, enter the City’s website at http://www.ci.richmond.ca.us and click on the “flash” version. Then go to “city departments” in “quick links” and scroll down to “public services” at http://www.ci.richmond.ca.us/Flash/Business/departments.html. On the left hand menu, select “capital improvements” at http://www.ci.richmond.ca.us/Flash/Public%20Services/cip.html. Then click on “CIP Project Locater,” which takes you to an agreement you have to respond to and then eventually to “Project Locater” at http://gisweb.ci.richmond.ca.us/cip/cip.asp.

As an example, I selected “Point Richmond” and entered the intersection of “Washington” and “Tewksbury” and a map popped up. I clicked on the star and up popped several projects, including a sewer line replacement on Washington Avenue slated for 4/1/2002, which has not happened yet and a replacement of sewer line and manholes on Railroad Avenue slated for 4/1/2002, which has not happened yet. What did not pop up is the recently completed resurfacing of Railroad Avenue.

This is good news, but as I said, clearly a work in progress. In addition to the “search” feature, the website needs simply a listing by project type, year of implementation, or budget line item that can be reviewed or searched. Also, a lot of the information required by resolution 117-01 is still missing or inaccurate, such as the project budget and the City budget line item. I am sure Rich McCoy would appreciate any constructive input as this feature continues to be developed.
