Police Chief Selects Assistant March 28, 2002 |
Richmond Chief of Police Joseph Samuels
will become president of the International Association of Chiefs of
Police later this year. This prestigious office will require him to
attend many international functions, consuming some 15-20% of his time,
all of which will be taken as earned vacation time. However, these frequent absences will require continuity of management, and Chief Samuels has followed a suggestion made by the Public Safety Committee on March 14th,echoed by community advocates, that the Police Department should have a single Assistant Police Chief. That person and rank would assure that there is continuity in direction and operations of the Department whenever he is away from office. Chief Samuels has just informed us that the city manager has approved his request for an assistant police chief, and the person selected is Captain Chuck Bennett, who will be appointed as assistant police chief, effective Monday, April 1. |
