| Richmond Hosts Movie
Crew Filming "The Sweetest Thing" June 5, 2001 |

For
the past couple of days, Richmond has provided the location for shooting
a Columbia Pictures movie, entitled “The Sweetest Thing,” starring
Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate. The film is a lighthearted
romantic comedy about a young successful woman paying the field, but
really looking for the right man. The characters, two city girls,
Cameron Diaz and Christina Applegate, live in San Francisco but head for
the “country” to catch up to a prospective boyfriend. On the way,
the girls have a car wash catastrophe and need to buy new clothes in
town. Point Richmond was turned into a village called “Somerset” for
the film. The cast and hundreds of supporting crew with a huge amount of
equipment and a hundred vehicles have taken over Point Richmond for the
shoot.
